John W. Russell is a financial executive with 30 years experience in business restructuring, financial, operations and systems analysis. He is proactive in identifying and attacking entrenched yet inefficient systems to strengthen management information and controls. His experience includes analysis and restructuring of financial processes to reduce risk and enhance profitability. He also has expertise in operations analysis focused on improved understanding of variables that drive profitability.
Prior to joining Meridian, he served as a Manager at Gleason & Associates. His duties there included financial reorganization consulting experiences, including; managing receiverships, advising companies in bankruptcy, advising creditors committees in bankruptcy cases, assisting firms in avoiding bankruptcy, preparation and evaluation of financial forecasts and business plans, and evaluation of accounting systems and financial reports. Litigation engagements included the determination of lost profits and economic damages arising from disputes in a wide variety of industries.
Before consulting, Mr. Russell was the Chief Financial Officer for a regional construction firm. His responsibilities included cost accounting, financial systems, cash management, insurance, bank relationships and profit sharing investments. He instituted significant improvements in job cost reporting and created an integrated system for job cost, estimating and field operations. He restructured bidding practices to reflect risk and investment in order to improve profitability. After implementing improved safety programs, he achieved major cost savings by self-insuring the workers compensation program.
Mr. Russell serves as President of the Virginia Club of Pittsburgh and as Treasurer of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association. He has also served as a Director of the Associated General Contractors of America. Mr. Russell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Business Administration from Duquesne University.
