Production workers at Glenshaw Glass voted last night to reject temporary wage and benefit concessions sought by a court-appointed receiver as necessary to keep the plant open while a search is conducted for new investors.
The vote to reject the concessions was close, said Lou Brudnock, president of Local 134 of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union, the largest of two glass locals that represent about 260 employees.
Margaret Good, president of The Meridian
Group, the receiver appointed last week by Common Pleas Judge Robert Horgos when he ousted owner John Ghaznavi from control, could not be reached for comment. She had met with union members earlier in the day to make the case for cuts Brudnock said approximated 20 percent of the wage and benefit package.
Brudnock said some who voted against the concessions felt they were excessive and were upset that the new management did not intend to impose similar reductions on the company's approximately 30 salaried workers. He said he was willing to continue talks.
